What’s In My Brush Lettering Workshop Kit (Everything I Use + Recommend)
If you’ve ever wondered what goes into one of my brush lettering workshops, I thought I’d share exactly what’s included in my kit.
These are the tools I personally use and provide to every attendee—carefully chosen to make learning brush lettering simple, enjoyable, and inspiring from the very beginning.
Whether you’re joining a workshop or practicing at home, this is everything you need to get started.
1. The Brush Pen I Always Use
Every workshop starts with the same pen I use daily.
Tombow Dual Brush Pen (Black N15)
It’s perfect for beginners because it gives you control while still allowing those beautiful thick and thin strokes. It’s also the pen I always recommend if you’re just starting out.
2. Practice Paper That Works With You (Not Against You)
I always provide smooth practice paper because it makes such a difference to your results.
Two pads I'd recommend:
- Strathmore Marker Paper Pad
- Daler Rowney Layout Pad A4
Using the right paper helps your pen glide and prevents frustration, something I always want to avoid when people are learning.
3. Pencil for Planning & Layout
- Faber-Castell 9000 Graphite Pencil Set
This helps with spacing, layout, and confidence especially when creating your final pieces like cards or gift wrap.
4. My Guided Practice Sheets
This is where everything comes together.
In my workshops, I guide you through:
- Basic strokes
- Letterforms
- Full alphabet
- Word practice
You can also practice at home with my downloadable sheets here:

5. The Creative Materials (The Fun Part)
Once you’ve practiced, we move onto creating:
- Gift tags
- Greeting cards
- Wrapping paper
- Decorative elements
This is where you start to see your lettering come to life in a real, meaningful way.
Why I Keep It Simple
One thing I’ve learned from teaching is this:
You don’t need loads of tools—you just need the right ones.
Everything in my workshop kit is chosen to:
- Build confidence
- Keep things simple
- Help you enjoy the process
